How to Keep Your Bub Warm for Winter
Brrr… the weather has begun to change and it is getting a little colder. Where did summer go? It will be winter soon, so the question is – how do I keep my little bub nice and warm during the colder months?
We all want a comfortable night’s sleep and so does our little bubs and we’re here to provide you with everything you need to know to be prepared for the upcoming chilly months.
What is the best room temperature for your baby?
The ideal temperature for a nursery/bedroom whilst sleeping is 18C° to 20C° during all of the changing seasons. We understand that this may not be achievable at all times, therefore we have some suggestions of the sleepwear you can put your bub in to help regulate their temperature.
What should your baby wear to bed?
When talking about sleepwear for your baby we first have to understand TOG. Why does that word sound so familiar and what does it mean?
TOG stands for Thermal Overall Grade and it is a unit of measurement for insulation within sleepwear and bedding. The lower the TOG rating, the lighter the fabric. The higher the TOG rating, the more insulated the sleepwear will be.
Our ErgoPouch collection includes various thicknesses that range from 0.3 to 3.5 TOG and there is suitable sleepwear for all ages starting from 2 months old to 6 years old. ErgoPouch sleepwear is made from breathable, natural fibers such as soft organic cotton with 5% elastane, which allows for stretch in all directions across the chest.
Remember – layering is your friend!
Layering is also a great and versatile method to change your baby’s temperature at night. It can trap the warmth between each clothing which means your baby can be insulated more effectively but ideal if your baby is getting too hot.
A lighter TOG clothing of 0.3 or 1.0 can be paired with a heavier TOG of 2.5 or 3.5 in the ErgoPouch collection to ensure your baby is warm enough.
Be careful of overheating
We want your little bub warm during the winter months but we don’t want them to overheat! Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is linked to overheating and we need to be wary of this. ErgoPouch creates sleepwear that is safe and considerate of the baby’s health and will be sure to keep them nice and warm.
